Australian Open Men’s Semi Finals: Medvedev v Zverev, Sinner v Djokovic and the NEW level of Tennis that has Arrived

Whilst Day 13 of the Australian Open has passed and our feature matches discussed in detail, what has yet to be shared is the Men’s semi-final clashes — both blockbusters in their own right, and lessons to collectively enhance each respective player and their performance. Whether that be Medvedev coming back from two sets down to topple Zverev, or Sinner running away with the first two sets over Djokovic before a close encounter begun, both of these matches were an absolute triumph for not simply the Australian Open but for Men’s tennis overall with new tussles coming to light.

The first of which is Zverev leading the charge and almost closing it out against Medvedev. And boy was this a fun one to watch. By all means Zverev was the stronger player for most of the match, meanwhile Medvedev was doing his best to keep pace — on the back-foot for the majority of the match before the tide changed…

Day 13 Australian Open: Zheng, Yastremska, Zverev, Alcaraz, Medvedev and Hurkacz plus who’s in line for more Grand Slam Success?

It’s the Day 13 of the Australian Open and it has been a whirlwind week with a bucket load of surprises in one way, shape or form. Most recently across Day 12 the match between Gauff and Sabalenka took centre stage. Herein we’ll share the other matches that were equally as exciting with their own respective key takeaways to be addressed. One of those matches was Zheng v Yastremska and it really needs to be noted how close this match up was, but at the same time, perhaps the best tennis Zheng has played all tournament. Unfortunately for Yastremska it was Zheng who lifted her game on the points that really mattered despite the progressions that Yastremska has made this Australian Open and without a doubt has ascended back to her prior ranking high and is flagged to progressively ascend inside the Top 20 if she is able to uphold this level of play throughout the 2024 season.

On the other hand, it is Zheng who has not only made her maiden Grand Slam final but has become a barrier breaker by landing a Top 10 tennis ranking. Australian Open Day 12: Sabalenka v Gauff Round Up and How the Winner was Set Before the Bell Drops

It’s Day 12 of the Australian Open and its women’s semifinal day — an absolute favourite time of each Grand Slam as these are the four players that are flagged for various reasons for the current season and the one to follow when these kind of results are achieved. In previous pieces exclusively shared for the 2024 Australian Open, I’ve taken a step back and focused on core metrics. These include the 7 Keys to the newest release “How to Develop a Top 10 Tennis Ranking: the Power of the 8th Key”. But what I am yet to share is a more refined take and one that is more explicit as to why a player will move the marker and potentially claim that maiden Grand Slam or replicated success.

Both Sabalenka and Gauff hold one Grand Slam Championship a piece which means they’re both primed to achieve replicated success if their metrics continue along their current trajectory. For those who are not familiar, replicated success is more than one Grand Slam and as more scientifically extrapolated in “What is Your Game Missing, to Win?”. I can still recall when I stumbled across this and figured it out. I was beside myself — in a very good way! Australian Open Day 11: Snapshot of Kalinskaya and Kostyuk in the Spotlight, Yastrzemska v Zheng and How Zverev defeated Alcaraz

It’s Day 11 of the Australian Open and so far we’ve been focusing on the more technical proponents of a player’s game and how these have either afforded them the prospects of making it “this far” at the Australian Open, or why they haven’t quite been able to amp up their game and deliver on the Grand Slam stage. Given this stage of the Australian Open and with the Quarterfinals underway, there are two primary matches that deserve wider focus for different albeit similar reasons. The first off the bat is Zheng v Kalinskaya and the focus here is going to be on the player who wasn’t the one to progress to the semifinals — Kalinskaya who was quite the surprise packet in respect to rankings this Australian Open, along with a number of other players, but let’s place the spotlight on this “newcomer”.

As previously shared, a player is placed on the “radar” with a Round of 16 result or greater at the Grand Slam level. Sometimes there are exceptions, but this is typically the case. That, and a player ascending inside the Top 10 tennis rankings. Typically, these two go hand in hand and I’m a firm believer (and so is the data) that a player inside the Top 10 tennis rankings “should” progress to the Round of 16 or greater at a Grand Slam…

Australian Open Day 10: Insights on Fritz v Djokovic, How to join the Top 10, What it takes to defeat Djokovic and more

It’s Day 10 of the Australian Open with a lineup packed with blockbuster matches and this encounter is no exception with Fritz at the ready — taking Djokovic to a tiebreak in the first. Coming into the Australian Open Fritz had regressed outside the Top 10 — but with the capacity to become a barrier breaker early this season if he begins to tighten his game and the key metrics that places a player of his calibre within reach of the 8%. Whilst Fritz is yet to position himself inside this exclusive ranking range, he does have the capacity to increase his key patterns of play — equipped with key angles of influence.

Perhaps one of only a handful of people worldwide that is privy to explicitly how to defeat Djokovic, it is equal parts exciting and exhausting when players either integrate the 8 Keys or they become weakened throughout a players game. And this was the case for Fritz leading into the Australian Open, and as a result, it was not surprising that he was a part of the 2% of Top 10 players that regress outside the Top 10 rankings each and every season. However, in a twist that significantly highlights Fritz is more than capable of not only becoming a barrier breaker once again, but potentially taking his place inside the top 8% with his quarterfinals performance this Australian Open…
