The very second episode of Beyond Top 10 Tennis was perhaps one of the more controversial topics I had penned at the time of the release of ‘The Secrets to Optimal Performance Success’ — my first Book that was published, and yet it remains one of the most pertinent topics to grasp and enact if and/or when the time calls. Fast-forward almost 8 years (a few weeks shy) from its release and subsequently 9 months since the airing of this very episode (I know, I’ve recently touched on being a little late to the game), it is just as relevant now more than ever to touch on Hiring and Firing Your Coach with some key parameters that see this as an overwhelming issue on both the ATP and WTA tours and one that I do wish had a wider uptake.
The tennis player is placed in a very unique position at a young age as they’re essentially the ‘boss’ of someone that is often much older than them at the time — double their age is a general rule of thumb for the developing players and then this gap fluctuates as the tennis player moves into their later years and perhaps switches to a more ‘senior’ coach that is oftentimes regarded as more experienced due to their years of age. And boy is this another topic I’ve touched on with personal ramifications…
